New York

For those animal lovers who would like to work with farm animals, join this World Horizons trip to the Farm Sanctuary in Watkins Glen, New York. The Farm Sanctuary was founded in 1986 to combat the abuses of industrialized farming and to encourage new awareness and understanding about farm animals.

World Horizons volunteers will help with the Farm Sanctuary with chores and projects that will be determined by the Sanctuary according to the greatest needs at that time. Farm chores and projects may include: shelter maintenance and beautification (i.e. cleaning, raking, painting, and gardening), helping with the care of the animals or administrative help like stuffing envelopes. All the tasks at the Farm Sanctuary assists them with carrying out the daily mission of rescuing, protecting, and caring for the farm animals in need.

Weekends will be spent doing sightseeing around New York State and possibly part of New England. You can check out the web site at www.farmsanctuary.org.

"One of the most rewarding aspects of my World Horizons trip was how much interaction there was between our group and the members of the community. I really felt like I came away from this trip understanding and truly appreciating the colorful people and their varied lifestyles." -- Elena Hill, Massachusetts
